From 2022 to 2023, WeTransfer's Creative Studio worked on refreshing the brand’s visual identity. I had the opportunity to lead a key component of this initiative—redefining and evolving our motion design language

WeTransfer's motion pattern: the circularity

WeTransfer is a file-sharing platform designed to keep your ideas moving. Its motion design language captures this essence through dynamic visuals that flow effortlessly, mirroring the ease and simplicity of the platform’s tools.

At the heart of the brand's motion behavior is the concept of circularity, inspired by WeTransfer's most recognizable asset: the Transfer Wheel.

Circular motion flowing
into imagery

WeTransfer’s use of imagery frequently highlights creatives and their work, as they represent the core of its audience. To give these images prominence, we spotlight them with expressive motion design that elevates their impact.

Images move fluidly across the screen in circular paths, and by using 3D space, we add depth and dimension—opening up more creative possibilities for unique and engaging visual choreographies.

Animated Type: simplicity and consistency

WeTransfer’s typography animations are typically subtle and refined, intentionally allowing the artwork and UI elements—often the more expressive components of the composition—to take center stage.

We defined distinct behaviors for our brand typefaces, GT Super and Actief Grotesque, balancing consistency with flexibility in how the type moves

We sometimes apply circular motion to the typography as well. These are assets where text is the main visual element.

Poduct Marketing UI

Marketing UI showcases WeTransfer’s products while also serving to educate users. These elements are designed to behave like tangible objects, responding intuitively to interactions. They move with elegance, spin through 3D space, and, most importantly, flow effortlessly and naturally.
The mouse cursor glides across the screen in smooth, arcing paths, creating a sense of natural and effortless motion.
